Spent the past couple weeks in the Eastern Sierras and the Great Basin of Nevada chasing chukar, quail and huns. Lots of good times with the family and a good friend from college came down from Montana with his young Spinone. Had a great time with my wife daughter and in-laws in the Sierras. Lots of birds, ghost towns/mines to explore, snow play with the little one and movies in the RV. I dropped them off at home and headed north at the end of the first week.
My cousin went above and beyond when he and his friend who is a wildlife biologist for fish and game went and scouted our usual haunts for birds in some brutally cold weather the days before I arrived. First day of the Nevada hunt the temps didn’t break 7 degrees, but with no wind, sunshine and deep snow, we were in t-shirts working hard most of the day. We managed to stay on the birds every day of the trip.
All told, we all had a great time. My setter hunted really well and held up unscathed in some pretty tough conditions. Plenty of birds for all and good meals and good bourbon by the fire every evening. Life is good!
