Weekly Website Wednesday – Week #14

For this week’s NetKennel WWW post, I’m sharing a simple tip for accessing your kennel website as a Web App on your iPhone.
I don’t get many support calls, but when I do, more often then not, the person on the other end of the call is struggling just to find their own website. They don’t have it bookmarked, and when asked to type the address into the browser’s address bar, they end up searching on Google or Yahoo instead. Wouldn’t it be easier to have a shortcut right on your phone’s home screen?
That’s exactly what Apple’s Web App feature allows. A Web App gives you an app-like experience without needing to download anything from the App Store. Web Apps run independently from Safari, with their own cookies, browsing history, and settings. Depending on the platform, they can appear with a simplified toolbar—or no browser interface at all. On iOS and iPadOS, they look and feel like regular apps, complete with an icon on your home screen. If the website supports it, the icon can even show notification badges. In short, Web Apps provide a streamlined, app-like way to visit your site quickly and conveniently.
How to Set It Up
1. Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
In the address bar (at the bottom of the screen by default, though it may be at the top depending on your settings), type in your website address—for example: https://netkennel.com.
2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up).
A menu will appear with several options.
3. Select “Add to Home Screen.”
Scroll down if needed, then tap this option.
4. Customize the shortcut.
Give the shortcut a name that helps you identify it (for example, your kennel name). Make sure to toggle “Open as Web App” to On.
Once finished, an icon will appear on your home screen. Tap it, and your website will open just like any other app—simple and fast.
